Reading the excerpt, ”Silence, Death, and the Invisible Enemy: AIDS Activism and Social Movement Newness”, was very black and white for me. I was in the school Library and too many distractions were around: my phone, the library alarm, loud people, even a few children. >:( After reading the first 7 pages, I began to get frustrated with everything I didn’t understand. Ergo, I skipped to the last chapter hoping to get a simpler conclusion to what I was reading. To no avail that did not help. The constant back and forth between several opinions was hard to follow, and the most I did understand was that ACT UP’s (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) and ACT NOW’s (AIDS Coalition to Network, Organize, and Win) were a strong liberal political party. Their intention, to re-define the gay and lesbian community as a label of AIDS. The communities thought of them as outrageous and unmoral.
